We apologize for the delays in posting to the blog. Our internet has been horrible the last 2 weeks.
After some thought, I tweaked the format a little to show the monthly summaries. Instead of comparing to our total average budget per month, I will compare to the budget we had set up for the month for the part of the world where we are traveling as these numbers will vary from month to month.
We traveled by:
Air - 0 miles - 3,939 miles or 6,339 km total for the trip
Boat - 200 miles - 4,342 miles or 6,988 km total for the trip
Car - 2,105 miles - 3,896 miles or 6,270 km total for the trip
Walking - 160 miles - 337 miles or 543 km total for the trip
Countries visited: 7 - Northern Ireland, England, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Italy - 11 total for the trip (Norway, Scotland, Iceland, Ireland)
Beds slept in: 12 - 25 total for the trip
Spring rolls consumed by Graham: 8 - 10 total for the trip
Ice cream cones consumed by Jane: 27 - 39 total for the trip
(These were special requests for the blog)
From July 1 - July 31, we spent: $7,437 USD vs a budget of $7,379 - $19,710 total for the trip vs a budget of $19,716
This month our budget was $7,379 and we were over budget by $58.
We were under budget on Accommodation, mainly because we changed our Airbnb for our week in Umbria, and Entertainment.
We were over-budget on:
- Food (I underestimated the amount of gelato consumption in Italy)
- Tolls (We thought Switzerland was bad with an initial $40 toll but that was for the entire country the rest of 2018 but it was small compared to the costs in France and Italy)
- Transportation (This was mainly ferry costs and is over budget because of extra trains in Switzerland and Cinque Terre).
Here is a time-lapse of a storm passing through in Umbria.
